My dog Mia (in my avatar) is exactly the same. She loves to sit on my knitting. If I spread something out to take a progress photo or just to check how it’s looking I’ll turn around and find her sitting there.
I think cats just want to be the centre of attention! Your knitting had your attention, so that’s what the cat sits on. Same is true of laptop keyboards, newspapers, books and ironing in my experience.
I do agree! My Woozle adores being naughty so she waits till she is alone, then stealthily like a fluffy Ninja, she jumps onto the ironing board/knitting/kitchen counter!! Then looks innocent, purring as we melt rather than tell her she is a NaughtiPuss!
